  • Year 4 News

    Sun 23 Sep 2018

This week, Year 4 have been working really hard!

In Maths, we have found ordering and comparing numbers with 4 digits fun with lots of practical challenges. We like working on the secure it, twist it and deepen it tasks. This is where we show how well we understand a task, and as we get better at it, we move into another level.

Number Race has changed this year, too! Instead of 3 times per week, we only have to fill our grid in once. In the other sessions, we play games like Snap! or Pairs with cards and Hit the Button on the computer. We are focusing on securing our 2, 5 and 10 times tables this half term.

Most of us are working really hard to keep our behaviour good. Many of Sandpiper class are always on the rainbow, so we earn lots of housepoints.

Learning about Pompeii in English is fun. We’ve written descriptions and rhymes all about it and we’re still finding out more. Our magpie books are full of new words! The Romans have been filling much of our lesson time. We’ve enjoyed pretending to be Roman soldiers and we’re looking forward to using the shields we have made to practise formations as if we are Roman soldiers too!

  • Year 5 News

    Mon 17 Sep 2018

In Year Five we have been learning how to write kenning poems and have also written a story. Kenning poems are when you write two words on each line and you give clues about an animal. For example, can you guess which class this is?

    Incredible-striker

    Clawed-killer

    Mountain-reacher

    Bone-crusher

    Fence-watcher

    What am I?

When we did maths, we did rounding to 10, 100 and 1000. Can you work out the answer to this question?

    4,725 to the nearest 1,000 is 5,025

Explain the mistake we have made.

We also did some sketching of our new class birds using different pencils and charcoals. As our topic wow, we also followed instructions on how to make paper aeroplanes! We then had a competition to see who could throw their plane the furthest.

  • Year 6 News

    Sun 09 Sep 2018

What a brilliant first few days Year Six have had! We were all excited to see each other after the summer break and share some of the exciting things we did in our holidays.

To help us get back into the routine of school we spoke about the school’s values. We discussed what each value looks like in class, on the playground and around school. Each class has created a class charter, which is on display in each room

We completed some team building activities! We had to work collaboratively in order to achieve and complete the task.
Have a look at the photos of us working together.

We have also produced some artwork on our class birds. Take a look at our sketches!

  • Welcome Back

    Sun 09 Sep 2018 O Knowles

Thank you for a fantastic start to this school year. It has been great to see everyone again after what can seem like a long time. The children have settled back in to school life well; they seem happy, keen and are a credit to you.

On our inset days, the staff had the opportunity to help shape some of the plans that we have for developing the school this year; be that the way we teach reading or our plans for the outside spaces. I look forward to sharing them with you in the near future. We also had some training on the way we teach art – the staff developed their skills in teaching drawing and using clay. I was lucky enough to be their model…

Over the last three days I have popped into all classes to see some great learning. The children have been writing letters (which you will receive), and producing some art work based on their new class bird. Every week a year group will be putting some work in the news section on the school website. This week is year 6’s turn - have a read and see what you think.
