There are three classes in Year Two: Swans, Mallards and Puffins. All three classes are located in the Lower School Hall in the Main Building.
In Year Two, children continue to learn phonics in order to improve their reading skills to enable them to become more accurate using their sounds to spell new words. During English lessons, children will continue to practise using their sounds to spell new words and notice spelling patterns. Children in Year 2 will write for a variety of purposes, writing instructions, stories, reports and explanations.
In Maths, we continue to practise learning Number Bonds and addition facts in order to become really confident mathematicians. As part of our mental strategies, we also learn written methods to solve calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Year Two is an important year as we prepare children for life in Key Stage Two. At the end of Year Two, the children will take tests in Reading and Maths. These tests support our understanding of what your children have achieved from when they were in Early Years through to what they learnt in Year 1 and Year 2.
