It is expected that each child reads to an adult at least three times a week, each child is provided with a reading record book where you can record any reading done at home. This will be checked by the class teacher. Every child will read to an adult at least once a term but will be regularly assessed during reading lessons which happen every day.
Number Work
Children will be tested on their addition and times tables skills three times a week through an activity called Number Race. It would be recommended that you get your child to practise chanting their tables. There are some great Apps to test tables such as 'Times table rockstars', 'Maths Sumo' and 'Quick Math' that you can download on tablets and phones.
PE
There is a PE session each week, on that day the children should come to school wearing their PE kit - t-shirt, shorts/leggings, trainers.
Spellings will be given out on Monday and tested the following Monday. These spellings are taken from the Year 5 National Curriculum Word list (this can be found in resources). Children are given time to learn them in school and are expected to also practise these at home.
