Your child will be taught English and Maths every day. Topic lessons are taught in the afternoon and are blocked into History, Science and Geography units.
This year, your children will be streamed into 3 groups for their maths lessons. This is to support each child and ensure that they are learning at the correct pace. We will be assessing children on a regular basis in preparation for the three Maths SATs they will be completing in May.
To ensure we support every child, we will be streaming for spellings across the entire upper KS2 phase. This means that your child will benefit from having extremely targeted spellings. Spellings will be given and tested in their spelling classes.
Children should also be reading at home at least three times a week to increase their fluency and comprehension skills. Asking your child questions about what they have read is very important.
‘Tell me what has happened so far in this book,’
‘Why did ______________ say that?’
‘Why did the author use the word ________?’
This term, there will be one PE lesson a week. Swimming lessons will take place during terms one and two. It is important that children bring the appropriate kit and that they arrive on time, as the first coach leaves at 9am.
