We are continuing to revamp our curriculum. From now on the whole school will be focusing on:
History during terms 1 & 4, Geography during terms 3 & 6 and Science during terms 2 & 5. Within these main topics, the children will also be covering subjects such as Art, DT and Music. We will also be blocking some subjects, so that they are taught as a series of lessons in the same week rather than on an ongoing basis.
During Term 1 we will be investigating What impact did the Romans have on Britain’s history? The aim of this topic is for the children to find out what the Romans brought to Britain and how they changed it, as well as how Britain has developed since the Roman invasion.
In English, there will be a larger focus on the children basing much of their work on an ongoing class novel from now on. For example, in the first few weeks of Term 1 the children will be doing purposeful activities linked to the book ‘I was there… Boudica’s Army’. It’s a story set at the time of the Roman invasion on Britain, told from the point of view of an Iceni child. Don’t buy it for your child though, it’s more fun when each day leaves them on a cliff-hanger!! We will also be learning ideas and structures of non-fiction texts from Talk for Writing story maps.
